Storing is Boring

Interspecies relationships are the hardest to navigate. Factors like the language barrier, physiological differences, and life span all create natural tension. Common sense would, at least, push experimental singles to match with animals with like-minded fiscal habits. 

For squirrels it’s always about nutty conservatism. Don’t try to change who they are.
